Dramatic Manmade System

image

It has been claimed that life is a stage. If this is true, then the star of life’s drama is a woman. Nowadays, the words “liberated” and “liberation” have completely lost their true meanings. Instead of describing one’s ones freedom from tyranny, oppression, or manmade systems, they have come to man being free from prohibitions – being free to do and to live however  one wans. Confusions about the true meaning of these important words is heard more and more from women because they are terms with which women identify. A result of this confusion is that western women are unable to see the reality of their own oppression. People are taking other words flagrantly and incorrectly too. Words are taken out of context to alter their meanings – words such as “oppression” and “human rights”. What is evident is that these terms have been have been redefined under the context of liberalized, modern society. The word “oppression” is defined as “that which oppresses or burdens, a feeling of being heavy weighed down, either mentally or physically; depression, weariness.” “oppress” means “to subjugate or persecute by unjust or tyrannical use of force or authority.”

But nowadays many westerners use these words that infringes on their personal freedom, even if the infringement is a law or a regulation which might protect them. For them oppression is for the muslim woman who covers her body.

Firstly, the muslim woman dresses this way because it is a command from her Creator. Secondly, adherence to divine laws protects the believer both in this life and the life to come. By covering her body, the muslim woman is viewed with dignity and respect and is not seen as an object to be preyed upon. Indeed the muslim woman regards western women with pity. Sky rocketing, rape statistics, sexual harassment law suits, a burgeoning female pornography, AIDS… the woman suffering oppression is not the muslim but her western counterpart. People have grown to believe that if they are granted more freedom, they will be happier. Consequently, they no longer feel personal responsibility to society or even to another, much less themselves. This is only the beginning of the drama.

  1. Hi Imran,
I agree modesty is important, but personal freedom is relative. What you believe in need not be what I believe in. We shouldn’t judge each other by our faith or what we feel is right. And I don’t think god ever sees us differently. I think each and every person in this world should live in harmony with their own beliefs intact rather than forcing their views on others. Am I not right?

  4. Another thought-provoking post, Imran. I agree that no one should judge others on their faith. Every individual has the right to worship as they please without being condemned by others.

  6. Peace be upon you Imran
Islam gives freedom to a female more than people think
Through applying the rules of Islam I can live a safe life cause I feel respect from people around me
But in our eastern societies a woman is opressed by traditions which have no relation with Islam
For example in some societies she is obliged to marry someone she doesnot want
I agree with you Imran that a real moslem society is much more modern than societies in the west
But me as a woman of 41 YEARS old and I think I have an experience in life I think that our societies needs to return to the real Islam and apply it well in their life
    Thanks Imran
    Have a good day:-)

  7. HOW ABOUT MUSLIM GIRLS / WOMEN DENIED OF OPPORTUNITY OF EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS IN SO CALLED MUSLIM COUNTRIES ? THE UNREPORTED RAPE / INCEST BY THEIR OWN MALE FAMILY MEMBERS? WOMEN BEATEN TO DEATH BY THEIR MUSLIM HUSBANDS? OR BEING ILLITERATE FOR THE REST OF THE LIFE?

  8. ISLAM HAS PUSHED WOMEN INTO THE STATE OF SCHIZOPHRENIC EXISTENCE. ANY EVIDENCE TO REFUTE THIS?

    • Most of the oppression of women by Islam and Muslims that is highly publicized is usually due to local customs and traditions. Muslim women have been presidents and prime ministers. Violence towards women and forcing them against their will is not permitted by Islam. Care for widows, orphans, and the poor is one of Islam’s strongest teachings. Unfortunately, many women are oppressed, However, this is a global issue and not just Islamic oppression. Prevalence of abuse of women is not higher among Muslims than among non-Muslims.

    • In Islam there is absolutely no difference between men and women as far as their relationship to Allah is concerned, as both are promised the same reward for good conduct and the same punishment for evil conduct. The Quran says:

“And for women are rights over men similar to those of men over women.” [Noble Quran 2:228]

The Quran, in addressing the believers, often uses the expression, ‘believing men and women’ to emphasize the equality of men and women in regard to their respective duties, rights, virtues and merits. It says:

“For Muslim men and women, for believing men and women, for devout men and women, for true men and women, for men and women who are patient and constant, for men and women who humble themselves, for men and women who give in charity, for men and women who fast, for men and women who guard their chastity, and for men and women who engage much in Allah’s praise, for them has Allah prepared forgiveness and great reward.” [Noble Quran 33:35]

This clearly contradicts the assertion of the Christian Fathers that women do not possess souls and that they will exist as sexless beings in the next life. The Quran says that women have souls in exactly the same way as men and will enter Paradise if they do good:

“Enter into Paradise, you and your wives, with delight.” [Noble Quran 43:70]

“Who so does that which is right, and believes, whether male or female, him or her will We quicken to happy life.” [Noble Quran 16:97]

The Quran admonishes those men who oppress or ill-treat women:

“O you who believe! You are forbidden to inherit women against their will. Nor should you treat them with harshness, that you may take away part of the dowry you have given them – except when they have become guilty of open lewdness. On the contrary live with them on a footing of kindness and equity. If you take a dislike to them, it may be that you dislike something and Allah will bring about through it a great deal of good.” [Noble Quran 4:19]

Considering the fact that before the advent of Islam the pagan Arabs used to bury their female children alive, make women dance naked in the vicinity of the Ka’bah during their annual fairs, and treat women as mere chattels and objects of sexual pleasure possessing no rights or position whatsoever, these teachings of the Noble Quran were revolutionary. Unlike other religions, which regarded women as being possessed of inherent sin and wickedness and men as being possessed of inherent virtue and nobility, Islam regards men and women as being of the same essence created from a single soul. The Quran declares:

“O mankind! Reverence your Guardian-Lord, who created you from a single person, created, of like nature, his mate, and from this pair scattered (like seeds) countless men and women. Reverence Allah, through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and reverence the wombs (that bore you); for Allah ever watches over you.” [Noble Quran 4:1]

The Prophet of Islam (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Women are the twin halves of men.” The Quran emphasizes the essential unity of men and women in a most beautiful simile:

“They (your wives) are your garment and you are a garment for them.” [Noble Quran 2:187]

Just as a garment hides our nakedness, so do husband and wife, by entering into the relationship of marriage, secure each other’s chastity. The garment gives comfort to the body; so does the husband find comfort in his wife’s company and she in his. “The garment is the grace, the beauty, the embellishment of the body, so too are wives to their husbands as their husbands are to them.” Islam does not consider woman “an instrument of the Devil”, but rather the Quran calls her Muhsana – a fortress against Satan because a good woman, by marrying a man, helps him keep to the path of rectitude in his life. It is for this reason that marriage was considered by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as a most virtuous act. He said: “When a man marries, he has completed one half of his religion.” He enjoined matrimony on Muslims by saying: “Marriage is part of my way and whoever keeps away from my way is not from me (i.e. is not my follower).” The Quran has given the raison d’être of marriage in the following words:

“And among His signs is this, that He has created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquility with them; and He has put love and mercy between you. Verily in that are signs for those who reflect.” [Noble Quran 30:21]

Don’t you think that this is muslim man who actually has made this dramatic man made society, so why do we talk about non-muslims?
So called broadminded muslim men ridicules us first then those non-muslims. What do you say?

  11. Thank you for enjoying my blog. The biggest problem that we all face is our relationship to God, not religion. There is one God, but some of us believe in more than one. And some don’t believe in God. Some people are in church every Sunday, but they are so phony. Some kill and do all kinds of evil and YET they claim to follow God. You cannot do evil and then claim you follow God.

  12. That was a good post, Imran.I always have to make people understand how Hijab is not oppressing. And girls do it with their own free will. And are not forced to do so.And It makes them feel safe and happy, instead of backward or uncomfortable.
Many people understand this. But a few of them, do get offended. And feel I am making a comment on their choice of clothing,by just explaining mine.
Your post helps inform people of the real reasons of Purdah.
    Happy Blogging 🙂

    • While wearing a hijab and experiencing what it feels like, even for a moment – many things may cross your mind. You might realise that you make look very different, but you’ll still feel like you. You’ll realise how much your looks play into your identity. If you walk out and about, you’ll realise that Muslim women are probably really aware of all the double-takes that people may make during the day. If you spend enough time in a hijab, you’ll realise that most women forget that they’re even wearing it, and it’s probably not a huge deal.

Those experiences and feelings are excellent. They completely legitimise our experience and demonstrate to someone, who isn’t emotionally invested, what it feels like to be judged for a decision one makes about whether or not to cover their body.

      Now that is incredibly powerful.

  14. I don’t agree with the fact that if we are going to follow a strict code of conduct in dressing…we are going to be safe…. ( Not favouring shorter you wear smarter you look)
It’s not entirely the dress thing I believe…most important is the attitude we wear….

  15. It is not just the women, my Dear Imran. MOST people have wrong ideas about liberation. …See how it is Misused by putin. And for Indians, 5 kilos of grain a month is liberation.
